Yeah, i don’t normally go to Starbucks. Figure i can get good coffee for half the price elsewhere. However, due to a few gift cards that i received for Christmas, i wondered into a Starbucks yesterday.
Now, in the sales girl’s defense, it’s been a LONG time since I’ve been to a Starbucks (the menu has changed significantly), and i really wasn’t certain what i wanted (except that i knew i wanted a HOT coffee beverage and not a COLD, iced coffee).
WTF? the menu didn’t say whether the selections were hot/cold.
I really wanted a skinny– or NONFAT– mocha cappuccino. But by mistake, i ordered a tall, “light” mocha frappuccino. I used the term “light” instead of skinny, ’cause the menu read, “order it light for 1/2 the calories.”
Now, in my defense, after i placed my order i said, “this is a hot beverage, right?” Sales girl pulls an ipod ear bud from her ear and says, ”What, I’m sorry i didn’t hear you… ?” *christ*
I repeat, “tall, light, mocha…”
SHE INTERRUPTS, ”yeah, yeah i got that…” *okey, dokey then*
She turns to my husband who orders a tall, skinny, mocha cappuccino. Sales girl says, HOT right? Hubby says, “yes.” I say, “I want mine HOT too.” She says, “the frappuccino is a cold beverage… so you want your original order but HOT?… a cappuccino… right?
Thinking she now has my order correct i respond, “yes!”
I end up with: TALL WHITE MOCHA CAPPUCCINO
When they called out the order, i turned to the guy behind me and said, ”Dude, that must be yours… “
Sales girl says, “Oh, isn’t that what YOU ordered?” I say, “No, i wanted a LIGHT MOCHA CAPPUCCINO.”
Girl replies, “Oh, you should have ordered that as a ‘SKINNY’ or NONFAT mocha cappuccino…”
Whatev’… i take the WHITE, WHOLE-FAT, WHIPPED DEVIL COFFEE, knowing full well it probably has a bazillion calories.
i so wanted out of there.
NOTE TO STARBUCKS: Use proper wording on your signage. Don’t tell customers to order a product “LIGHT” when what the barista understands is SKINNY or NONFAT. Oh, and tell the barista taking the coffee order to turn off her ipod and remove the ear buds…
